Keto Mozzarella Sticks

- ย 6ย mozzarella cheese sticks, halved lengthwise
- ย 1ย cupย avocado oil
For the Breading:
- ย โ ย cupย blanched almond flour
- ย โ ย cupย high-fiber coconut flour
- ย ยผย tspย garlic powder
- ย ยผย tspย onion powder
- ย ยผย tspย xanthan gum
- ย ยผย tspย kosher salt
- ย Pinch of ground black pepper
- For the Egg Wash:
- ย 2ย eggs
- ย 2ย tbspย heavy cream
- Optional Dipping Sauce:
- ย ยฝย cupย low-sugar tomato or marinara sauce
Directions
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. (If a typical sheet pan, about 18 by 13 inches, wonโt fit in your freezer, line two smaller rimmed trays instead.)
- Make the breading: Sift the almond flour, coconut flour, garlic powder, onion powder, xanthan gum, salt, and pepper into a mixing bowl.
- Make the egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream.
- Take a mozzarella stick and, using one hand, bread it following this sequence: dip it into the egg wash, then into the breading, then into the egg wash again, and then back into the breading. Place the breaded cheese stick on the lined sheet pan and repeat with the rest of the cheese sticks. When all the sticks are breaded, place the pan in the freezer for a minimum of 2 hours.
- When ready to fry the cheese sticks, heat the oil to 400ยฐF in a 1-quart saucepan or a deep-fryer. Fry the cheese sticks 2 or 3 at a time for 1 to 2 minutes, until golden brown.
- Transfer the keto mozzarella sticks to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve your keto mozzarella sticks hot with tomato sauce for dipping.
